Harry Harootunian is Max Palevsky Professor of History, Emeritus, University of Chicago, has authored several books on early modern and modern Japan, Marxism, historical theory, and area studies. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, former editor of the Journal of Asian Studies, former member of the editor collective of Critical Inquiry and Hihyo Kukan (Critical Space).
